Wake Forest University School of Medicine: Streamlining MD Program Communication

Enhancing Communication Across Campuses

The MD Program at Wake Forest University School of Medicine was in the process of programming for the launch of their first-year class of medical students in their new Charlotte campus. With a “One School, Two Campuses” model as a guiding principle, the launch of the second campus would greatly complement its Winston-Salem campus in enhancing learning opportunities for more medical students. The challenge was how to position the program under one, unified mission while communicating to students and faculty stakeholders with examples of that mission in action.

As part of a larger communications plan, we developed a consolidated e-newsletter strategy, leveraging a third-party platform for managing contacts, templates and distribution. This included building out appropriately branded elements, as well as regularly engaging with faculty and staff on content development for newsletter editions.

Partnering with administration and leadership, efforts led to communication pieces and programs that more consistently reflected the school’s “one school, two campuses” approach. The e-newsletter platform added new layers of measurability and engagement, outpacing medical school industry average open rates.
